17 km run on Sunday 19th September from KHAR TO KANDIVALI HIGHWAY

Hi....

Below is my Running details as per Garmin.

http://connect.garmin.com/activity/49573500?sms_ss=email

Every morning in Africa, a gazelle wakes up. It knows it must outrun the fastest lion or it will be killed.
Every morning in Africa, a lion wakes up. It knows it must run faster than the slowest gazelle, or it will starve.
It doesn't matter whether you're a lion or gazelle - when the sun comes up, you'd better be running,

Thats what I am doing...no matter how fast or slow, good or bad, tired or Fresh, Sleep late or early, NO MATTER WHAT...on SUNDAYS-----I AM JUST GOING TO GET UP and RUNNNNN!!!!!
I can easily say that now I AM ADDICTED TO RUNNING..and not just running, by running, i mean LONG DISTANCES......

I have already registered for Goa Half Marathon which is on 19th December and now planning to register for Airtel Half Marathon on 21st November in Delhi, provided i get some company to Run along....
Anyways Back to the Run....

I was going to do 18 km and was very focussed to do this run..right from the beginning..
originally i was supposed to do the same Kalina loop which i did last Sunday..however, i wanted to meet my Cricket Group with whom i play regularly in Kandivali on Sunday, so decided to run that way and meet them....
however, turned up running 1 km short as i felt if i had ran more, i could have injured myself by overrunning...

It was a very tough run for me for many reasons..
1. for the first 9 kms i was running with a Backpack filled with Water and that slowed me down.more then slowing me down, it warmed up by Body temparature to a great extent which was unwanted and i then realised that covering the entire 18k would be difficult with that backpack..so i called my friends who met halfway and took the backpack away..
2. the slopes on the highway..it was more like a HILL TRAINING then a normal flat run of 18 km...

It was too tough to run this Sunday as the Sun came shining by 645 itself...

i started my run by 544am and was already on the highway by 555am...after 50 minutes of nice running in the dark, the sun came and it was killing..the temparatures shot up and i was finding myself in the middle of nowhere....
to add to the woes of the heat and tiredness, my Shuffle was stopped working...and hence was running without any music..i generally have all my favourite songs on my shuffle when running, so whenever i feel like giving up, i just listen to a nice peppy number to charge me up.

Upto Jogeshwari, it was a easy jog for me and was very comfortable with the same...however the toughest distance was from Jogeshwari to Malad as it was kind of uphill task...and from Malad to Kandivali was comparatively easy as it was going downhill....

Hope i am well prepared for the next LONG RUN...

Next Sunday, i shall be trying to run 21km...and if i do run 21 km...by 1st target is to better last year marathons timing...
my last years timing was 2 hours 22 minutes....if i can better that off....its going to be a great achievement for me....
LETS HOPE I MAKE IT...

This week i am going to only concentrate on Running with Speed...will try to improve speed for this wednesday run as well...lets see how well i do....;-)
as i want to do 10 km under an hour or so.....
Bye for now....

15th Sept run @ BKC - 10 KMS

Hiiiiiii,
Below is my today's run:
http://connect.garmin.com/activity/49072700?sms_ss=email
And its a surprise to me as well.....
Reason?????? its simple.....i bettered my timing once again...
i finished 10 kms under 1 hour....
last wednesday i did 8.5 kms in 55 minutes, so i covered additional
1.5 kms in just 5 minutes which is very good......
if i maintain this speed, then its going to be great....
I dont know how i ran so fast today....maybe it was the beer which was
giving me the energy, which i had last evening, followed by some nice
Batata wada's at home in the evening for Dinner....
If that is the case, have to drink before every run ;-)
but i realised 1 more thing, with so much of running and burning
almost 5000 calories minimum only in running per week, i guess, my
system cant take much of boooze, which is a good thing in a ways
......
i guess i could have run even better if i had rested well
yesterday...as in after doing heavy LEGS exercise in the Gym, lifting
your leg and running comfortably is a bit difficult....Trust me, your
legs are telling you to stop and you are working against it by making
them Run the distance.....
i was supposed to run only 9 kms and had almost finished 5.5 km and
reached a point where a senior runner - Mr. Vaiju said, lets go back
from here....he wanted my company and i gave him and in that event
ended up running 1.5 kms more which i had not even planned to...
but every additional km i run everyday, improves my performance....
Its like that saying " when the going gets tough, the TOUGH gets going " ;-)
this Friday, i do the Pali Hill Loops. the same loops i did last
friday...will eventually do the same distance, that is 2 loops and
compare the timings with last week and see if i can better it....
Rest update on Friday...till then Byeee.

BACK AT MY BEST---- 2 loops of BKC - 18kms 12th Sept

My SUNDAY RUN AT BKC  FOR 18KMS.....
http://connect.garmin.com/activity/48803882?sms_ss=email
Hi Guys....
I am highly elated and impressed with the way I am running...
No i am not boasting myself...but actually, Proud and at the same time
surprised at myself as for what i have achieved in 2 weeks or proper
running, was not expected to be achieved so quickly.....
i ran at a speed similar to what i ran my Half Marathon last year..i
finished 21km last year in 2 hours and 20 mins..
and this sunday i did 18 kms in 2 hours without pushing myself
much....i could have ran the additional 3 kms in 20 mins by pushing
more and achieved to run the half marathon timing...
will try to better or match my half marathon timing next sunday as i
aim to run 21kms next sunday itself.....
Back to the run..
Did 2 loops of the BKC - kalina circle which i generally do on Wednesdays...
the 1st loop was pleasant and easy....but the 2nd loop was sunny, hot
and humid...
It was the 1st time infact i ran under sunlight and it is tough....the
heat is what tired me to some extent....
Have to get used to this heat as Running for 5 hours starting at 6am
would mean finishing by 11am and that is the killing factor when it
comes to running in Bombay......
have to run with sunglasses next time preferably.....
Compared to my last sundays run - where i purposely ran slow, i did 15
kms in 2 hours and 6 minutes....
this Sunday it did 3 kms more and also manage to reduce my timings by
9 minutes...
the real comparision will be next Sunday, when i run again with the
same speed and Heart Rate and see if i can better my timings...
lets hope all goes well....
Again, i was happy to finish Strong as after the run, went home,
relaxed at home, had a good sleep and in the evening visited
Chandani's friends house in Town for Ganpati darshan and no pain in
legs whatsoever.....
Rested and slept well today morning so fresh again for the week to come.....
Tommorow will do LEGS in the Gym and Wednesday, will try running 10kms
if possible...b
Bye for now ;-)

10th Sept Slopes @ PALI HILL - 7 kms

Hi.......
Today was slopes time for Me to increase strength and stamina...
did a completely new route today which was quite challenging..
much tougher then the Mountmerry slopes...
This is the Pali Hill Loop where we ran the entire Pali Hill Road
which is quite tough further running down to Carter Road and U-turn
back to the start is 1 full loop of approx 3.5 kms..
did 2 such loop....
timing was just toooooo goood considering the slopes involved....
below is my run:
http://connect.garmin.com/activity/48330026?sms_ss=email
if you remember, on wednesday i ran 8.5 km in 55 mins and today i ran
7.1 kms in 51 mins....with a lot of slopes......which is quite
good....
i am improving my speeds and endurance day by day......
the run was quite tough..by the beginning of 2nd loop, i thought i
should not be running after mid-way, but then thought of the book i
read recently, where it is mentioned, that " you never have tried too
hard unless you feel like giving up..." so i just took a water break,
tied my laces again, and completed the stretch.........

Saw Dabangg yesterday and slept by 115 at night...but somehow the
passion of finishing the FULL MARATHON on 16th Jan is so strong...that
i just happen to get up at 530 in the morning and start my run by 615
am....
initially i thought i would rest..but then in the morning, thought, y
to rest....y miss 1 day of running which i enjoy the most these
days......?
now tomorrow will be in the Gym strengthning my back and biceps and
Sunday its again 15 kms.....
this time will be doing 2 loops of the BKC Run..the same distance
which i did on Wednesday, would run that twice...
lets see how it goes.... ;-)
if i manage the same timings as Wednesday for twice the
distance...then it will be Awesome...but i doubt that will be
possible.....
I have a T-Shirt which says in the Front " MY BETTER IS BETTER THAN
YOUR BETTER" and on the back side it says " I APOLOIGISE"
its the coolest quote to wear when I am running.... as currently that
IS My Attitude.....
More on my Runs on Sunday.......BYEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!

8th Sept KALINA LOOP - 8.5 kms

Hi,

Monday was  a REST DAY as the body does need a recovery...from this week, i run alternate days..
mainly, Wednesdays( 7 - 10 kms), Fridays ( Slopes),  and Sunday (endurance runs).

Tuesdays( LEGS & Biceps), Thursdays ( Chest, Shoulder, Triceps) & Saturday ( Back & Biceps).

BACK TO RUNNING On 8th Sept, Wednesday...i was well prepared to run with only 1 thing in mind...which was to keep my heart rate below 185 bpm.....

Last sunday i ran with Heart rate below 160 bpm and the results are quite neatly shown why running in controlled speed helps...I did 8.5 kms in 55 mins...this is similar speed to my last half marathon....
now, i just have to get better and better from here...lets see how it goes...

Todays run was beautiful as well as hot........i did not get tired at all and at the end of 8.5 kms, i was still
wanting to do more and could have easily crossed 10km without any effort...and the speed at which i was running..under 7 mintues per km is phenomenal....infact avg comes to 6.45 minutes per KM......
even if i run at 7 minutes per km, i can finish my marathon in 4.9 hours..

my target is do complete the FULL MARATHON under 5 hours at any cost.....
so i still have to better my timings...

LETS SEE>..
Later on reaching home when i weighed myself at home, i was surprised to weigh at 79 kgs instead of 81 kgs...
2 kgs fat loss in 8 days......VOW....this too without any diets and occasional drinks....

MY TODAYS RUN AS BELOW
http://connect.garmin.com/activity/48084907?sms_ss=email

FRIDAY I RUN AT PALI HILL THE ZIG ZAG SLOPES WHICH ARE REALLY TOUGH....SHALL KEEP YOU POSTED>>>>

bye for now.

MY FIRST LONG RUN--5th Sept - 15 kms

Hi all,

Yesterday was SUNDAY....where i get ample of time to run long distance...hence i ran from our Bandra Club where other group members met and started running towards Siddhivinayak Temple.

Initially, my target was to run for 12 kms as i had to take it slow since it was my first long run after a long long time....But i eventually ended up running 15.5 kms as could not stop myself for running upto the RTO Office near CITY BAKERY instead of Siddhivinayak temple and took a U-Turn back to the MIG Club for Stretching.

Below is my route and timing..
http://connect.garmin.com/activity/47601102?sms_ss=email

I was running with keeping 1 thing in mind....which was TO KEEP MY HEART RATE UNDER 160 - 165 bpm. and i quite succeeded in maintaining the same.....doing so has its own pros and cons....

the PROS being, the stamina increases as the main strategy of a marathon running is RUN SLOW AND RUN LONGER...
Also, it helps to go the distance without injuring your back, knees, ankles and makes you finish Strong...

this is what i am looking for...
on 16th JAN, when i cross the 42 kms...i want to finish STRONG.....so strong, that after the marathon, can go for a movie or a dinner in the evening with Chandu ;-) ......JUST LIKE WE DID IT YESTERDAY.

the CONS being 1 actually has to run soooo slowly that it kills your quadriceps...as you are actually stopping yourself to run....its like you have weights in the legs and then running as compared to the normal style of running....but IT WAS FUNNNNNNN.....

Have to work on my legs now so that they can take the impact of my weight while running at a normal speed... i did take a few WALKING BREAKS in the middle as they are extremely necessary while running long distances...and i am not used to it as it breaks your rhythm completely...but its just getting used to it...

Anyways, back on the run.....
The morning was beautiful with complete silence all around. At 6AM in the morning, Bombay roads indeed look beautiful and clean without any honking or Traffic....with no rains it was a little warm...but i was
tooooo thrilled with the fact that i am running once again.....Somehow, running has started giving me immense pleasure and kick and i am getting more and more passionate about running off lately......
As soon as i reached Shivaji park, the place was buzzing with so many ppl for morning walks, a few oldies preparing for their marathon runs and then as i reached the Siddhivinayak temple...i took a break...stood there in front of a temple for a few seconds, switched off my i-pod and enjoyed the silence.... i wanted to go in the temple...but couldnt as didnt want to break by rhythm...but will go there soon....

i had to take a U-turn back immediately...but my heart didnt allow me.......i said to myself, let me see how it feels at the end of the run if i do 3 more kms and still finish strong..so i kept a check on my watch and ran an extra 1.5 kms and after a U-turn back to MIG it made a complete stretch of 15 kms.....

The return was a little boring as had the same sights to see....i have to certainly change my mindset as during the full marathon, the 2nd half of the stretch will be a U-turn from Bandra and the journey to the finish line will be in scorching heat....lets see how it goes...its a long way to think about the same.....as the first target is to reach the Half Marathon stage 1st..

SHALL RIGHT MORE IN THE NEXT MAIL.....

bye for now ;-)

3rd Sep - Mount Merry Slopes (9 rounds)

Hi...

below are details of my todays run at the Mount Merry Slopes....
the Slopes is mainly done once a week for 2 things.
1. Increase Stamina
2. Gives Strength to the heart and legs.

http://connect.garmin.com/activity/47328466?sms_ss=email

Mt. Merry is pretty sleep, which you can imagine seeing the Elevation mentioned in the sheets...
the chart shows i have ran on different roads, but such waviness in running is only on 1 road, where we were going UP and DOWN....was going side ways often because of Cars approaching and also many other
runners were there of different groups..

Now in the mornings, you see Mumbai running and gearing up for the Marathon...
If you see, i ran only 5 kms....but if you compare it with Calories burnt with my yesterdays 5 kms run, you will notice, that i burnt almost 200 - 220 calories more then yesterday.....

Currently reading a book " CONFESSIONS OF AN ALL NIGHT RUNNER " by DEAN KARNAZES...
totally Kickass book on how this guy started to Run, left if for 15 years, and 1 fine night on his 30th Birthday decided to pick it again and then you have to see what all he has acheived in running so far......
haven't completed so far, but this guy managed to run an Ultra Marathon of 100 miles (160 kms) under 24 hours of continous running through all kinds of temparature that you can imagine....

THIS WAS HIS 1st ULTRAMARATHON...to know more about this guy, just google on his name and you will now....
AWESOME BOOK TO READ...

Day 3 - 2nd Sep Run @ BKC

My Todays run....actually, ran about 6.5 - 7 kms, which included the shown distance into running as balance distance was initial warm up walking and cool down walking...for which i paused by Garmin...

Things looking good already with no pain in Knees so far whatsoever...only have to strengthen my ankle more....

Tommorow will be doing Slopes at Mount Merry carter roads and Target is 10 rounds of slopes in 45 minutes time...lets see if i can do it..

2nd SEP BKC RUN
http://connect.garmin.com/activity/47205858?sms_ss=email

Day 2 - 1st Aug Run @ BKC

1st September Run @ BKC - 6.5 KM

http://connect.garmin.com/activity/47070764?sms_ss=email

today i did 6.5 kms and tomorrow Target is around 7 - 8 kms....depends on how my knees support me...
Stamina wise, things look pretty good but do not want to get carried away as i know the legs will take some time to get used to long runs.
hopefull by next week, should be up and running above 10 kms atleast.....

shall keep posting my runs and experience to you guys on a regular basis

Countdown to 16th Jan Full Marathon Training Starts Today - 31st Aug

Ran at BKC today....the weather was simply awesome.....
luckily it didnt rain and i had taken my jacket with me in case if it
rains...but have decided that NOW ON, not going to miss my running
schedule....

we have 1 Dr. Ajay Kharat in our group with whom i ran today, and he is going to help me set my schedule..All i have to do is go daily or atleast 3 -4 days a week to Run............
19 weeks and I would be ready to ROCK the MUMBAI MARATHON for 42 KMS.....

Click on the link to see how i ran for 4 kms as then had to cool down.....i think i could have easily ran for 20 more mins without much effort.
